Default H.264 / F4V / FLV Video Support (native)

While Director supports a lot of video formats through external
players like QuickTime, Windows Media, Real Media or DVD,
Director never had its own, native video support.
This changes with Adobe Director 11.5:
Name: nativevideosupport.jpg
Views: 2056
Size: 37.1 KB
  • Native support for H.264 encoded MPEG-4 video (MP4/F4V) and Sorenson Spark & On2 VP6 (FLV)
  • Alpha transparency supported with On2 VP6 encoded FLVs
  • Off-stage video playback incl. Lingo access to the video image (e.g for use as animated texture in 3D)
  • Video streaming support through Flash Media Server.

Excellent news Martin. I'll reply as everybody else seems to have gone to bed. No 30 day announcement - is this for real (to coincide with GDC09) or a mistake?

Any word on bugfixes or 3D enhancements?

Adobe is pretty serious about Director, this time there's no month between announcement and availability! I've added the Director 11.5 trial download link to the first post. Have fun "digging in the dirt" ... any feedback much appreciated!

It's great to see Adobe pushing new features with Director. I just wish they'd get their website working properly before they release 11.5.

The downloads don't work for the trial version of Director 11.5, and the user experience with getting their demo games to work is not great. There's no indication that you need to update your Shockwave player, it just attempts to load the game, and then fail out with a generic error.

Also, when will Adobe release a Shockwave player for the Mac that lets you play legacy Shockwave content. For example, if I go to Candystand.com to play a game on the PC, it works fine. But if I play the same game on a Mac, it fails out, saying it needs Havok extra. --> http://www.candystand.com/play.do?id=18368# It's been like this since 11.0 was released a year ago. I thought for sure they'd fix it in 11.5.

Anyway, it's good to see they're making progress.

Nice! But let me have the honor to rant first: $299 upgrade cost for people who bought 11 is... not so nice...

Is there a place where we can see a more specific list of all new scripting functions aside from the general new features listed here?

Hurrah Adobe's finally taking Director into the forefront of web deployable application development at a cost of...

Uniy3D Indie costs $199...
Wait what?

K - goodbye Director. When they update the 3D package I might come back - if they've fixed all of the black-out bugs in popular browsers; hell they can even leave the mac Firefox3 broken - i'd be fine with just PC.

Good job Director team I congratulate you; you have effectively stolen more of the codebase from Flash and integrated some of it (poorly) into Director. I'm sure its Adobe Corporate that told you to do that though so its OK.

**** paying this team $299 to go from something that didnt work to something that still has enough bugs to scare the pants off of anyone interested in webdev... "Does not work in Firefox 3" - wait what?
